Project's Regional Events

The project is convening a regional stakeholders meeting on the Integrated Phase Classification (IPC) for food security, in collaboration with regional IPC partners in the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, on 29 May 2012, in Bangkok. The meeting will bring together international experts, IPC practitioners and the team of the newly launched IPC programme in Asia "Special Focus to Strenghthen IPC Capacities in Four Countries". The project participated in the annual consultative meeting between FAO and WFP held at FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. The consultative meeting aimed to review and take stock of past and present collaboration, identify areas of common interest and priority in the region, and explore new areas and opportunities for future cooperation between WFP and FAO. Based on the review of joint activities, key constraints and areas of improvement were identified at regional and country levels. In addition, the two agencies identified future collaborative areas and updated their work plan for collaborative activities.

The workshops aimed to bring together a cross section of thought leaders from organizations and countries with innovative initiatives in mobile-based information services and in ICT for rural development and provided a unique opportunity to exchange the latest information on development trends thereby provides an opportunity for knowledge sharing and to validate models for use in agricultural and rural development. The project participated in the 6th meeting of Director Generals of Agricultural Statistics and Information in ASEAN+3 Countries and the 10th Focal Point Meeting of AFSIS Project that was conducted from 14 to 16 March 2012, in Tokyo, Japan. These meetings are organized on a regular basis to discuss activities and plans of ASEAN and AFSIS on agricultural related information.  It provided an opportunity to AFSIS to present its plans for the period 2012-2105, and its collaboration with FAO to strengthen and expand its activities.

The project participated in the ECHO-FAO meeting organised at the FAO Office for Asia and the Pacific, in Bangkok. The objective of the meeting was to bring together interested officers to identify and discuss areas of common interest to support both emergency and long-term prevention measures. The project supported the Learning Programme for ASEAN Food Security Professionals provided by the ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS), in partnership with FAO and GIZ.  The programme aimed to enhance capacities of professionals in food security information analysis and strategies.  Participants took part in the eight-day intensive face-to-face workshop held in February, in Bangkok, Thailand. They have been selected through the successful completion of a three-week online workshop organized in September 2011.
